Excellent discussion of storytelling, but don’t sleep on commercial art!
That artists aren’t trained for function in addition to the much-ballyhooed “self-expression” is a shame for all art, not just comics. I’m glad the Kubert school is still around. I wanted to go there but my parents put the kibosh on that. Alas, how life might have turned out . . . although given the dismal state of the comics industry, that might (emphasis: might) have been a blessing in disguise.
Those older artists had a style that was more than just splash-pages and poses. I loved it.

Well, I'm hooked.
Very good read as always! I'm going to go back and click on all your links.
Thanks for the feedback! That's a LOT of reading, just be warned.
I've been reading it all afternoon and now I'm sharing it with some other comic creators I know. :-D
